Kate’s Senior and Family Session in Helena, MT
Graduation season has a way of sneaking up on families. One day you’re thinking about it as you sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and the next you’re realizing your graduate is one months from walking across a stage. Where does the time go? Kate’s family reached out well before graduation season, and they had an idea that most families don’t think to ask for — and it turned into one of my favorite sessions of last year.
The Smart Thing to Do
Rather than just having a senior photo session for their soon-to-be graduate, Kate’s family decided to roll in a family session as well. After all, everyone was together. The light in Helena was doing exactly what you want it to do. So instead of walking away with just senior portraits, they stayed for a family session too — and that decision transformed a quick senior session into a fun family memory.
Here’s the thing about family photos in Helena, MT: getting everyone in the same place, dressed well, and in a good mood at the same time is genuinely hard. We are all busy playing in the mountains, playing our sports, our music, and enjoying the wonderful place we live in. Slowing down and capturing some photos can be a challenge. Senior portraits are one of the few occasions where it happens naturally. The family is already invested, already present, and already looking their best. It’s the most underused opportunity in portrait photography and an amazing opportunity for a treasured family experience in the middle of a crazy senior year.
Kate, Class of 2026
Senior portraits in Montana carry a particular kind of weight. This isn’t a studio backdrop and a cap-and-gown shot — it’s a document of who someone is at a specific, unrepeatable moment. Kate brought that energy to every frame. Confident, natural, and a joy to be around. The Helena landscape gave us texture and depth, and she gave us everything else.
Two Sessions. One Day. A perfect family experience.
If you have a soon-to-be-graduating senior at home, this is your sign to double up. Book the senior session, stay for the family portraits. They don’t always dress up — and when they do, you should make the most of it.
I offer combined senior and family sessions in any destination. Reach out at the button below to talk through what that looks like for your family.
